About the afternoon training:

This coming August 14th, our trainer, Joy Loewen, will be talking to us about the theme of Journeys: Her own, the typical journey a Christian woman goes on in developing a meaningful relationship with a Muslim woman, with hopefully the opportunity to be a witness for Jesus, the journey a Muslim woman goes on as far as being friends with us and considering Christ, and then the journey a believer woman goes on once she has accepted Jesus. So many people don’t realize it is a long journey nor understand what it may look like.

The speaker will also try to help us go  "Beyond Drinking Tea". She uses the illustration/analogy of going through a house with each room signifying how our friendships develop deeper and deeper along with our witnessing. For example: we start in the “kitchen” and just talk chit chat and drink tea together. Eventually we go to the “basement” where she is afraid to go to open up about all her fears and suffering and then out to the “deck” where we bask in discipling and so forth.

While the training uses examples of Joy's ministry to women, Christian men will benefit from understanding the world of Muslim women and how they impact their husbands, children and communities. If Christian men want to reach out to Muslim men, it is important to understand the Muslim man’s world, a big part of it is his relationship with his wife and family. Everything is interconnected.

About the afternoon speaker:

Joy, whose American parents pioneered the gospel to Somalis, was born in Yemen. She grew up in Somalia when they finally received permission to enter the land. Later she graduated from Moody Bible Institute where she met her future husband, Ed, who grew up on a farm in Manitoba. Ed and Joy spent ten years ministering in Pakistan with TEAM at a mission hospital. In 1988 they returned to Canada to engage in ministry among Muslims.  They have been involved for the past 32 years in hospitality and evangelism among Muslim university students, refugee newcomers and immigrants, followers of Jesus Christ from Muslim background, and asylum seekers. Ed and Joy have two married adult children and six grandchildren.  They are with Pioneers Canada.  Joy is the author of "Woman to Woman: Sharing Jesus with a Muslim Friend". No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength and all your mind. And your neighbor as yourself.
