Pray for Montreal

March 5, 2020

Montreal

Quick Facts:

Population: 4.1 million (2016 census)

Ethnic Groups:

5% North African origin (including a significant Berber population)

5% Middle-Eastern origin

2.2% South Asian origin

Montreal is Canada’s second-largest city and the largest in the province of Quebec. It is also the second-largest French speaking city (behind Paris) in the world. Although Montreal is an island its area is three times as large as Vancouver. While the city’s official language is French, 23% of its citizens speak English. Due to an emphasis on seeking francophone immigrants, the largest immigrant populations over the last ten years are from North Africa—French speaking countries that are overwhelmingly Muslim.

Number of mosques: According to Salatomatic, there are 68 mosques in Montreal.

Number of churches: 498 (Census Metropolitan Area)

Pray:

Please pray for the MAC (Ministry to Africans in Canada) Montreal team, as they reach out, in partnership with local Quebec churches, with the gospel to North Africans (Moroccans, Algerians and Tunisians) in the city through ESL, a childrens' sports program and summer camps.

Please pray for the North African Christians in the city who, despite being thousands of kilometers from their home countries, still face persecution from family and colleagues. Please pray that they would be surrounded by church families who love and care for their needs.

Please pray specifically for two Algerian men in their late 30s and an Iranian woman (also in her late 30s) who have all received a copy of the New Testament with excitment. May their eyes be opened to understand who Jesus is and may they surrender their lives to him.

About Loving Muslims Together

Loving Muslims Together exists because God’s love, demonstrated through Jesus Christ, is for Muslims. We function as local networks across Canada. We work to connect people and churches to opportunities, training and resources to help them build bridges to their Muslim neighbours, living out God’s love in word and deed.

No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion.

Nelson Mandela

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength and all your mind. And your neighbor as yourself.
